Purchasing Information and Sales Policy
We are not a pet store!
Picture / Video of your safe and suitable cage / setup. (Email info@rockymtnchins.com), unless you are getting a cage / setup from RMC. Check first if we have cages available.
RMC will advise if there items that are not approved and how / why to resolve.
Once approved, we will be able to set up a time for you to come and get your animal(s).
RMC reserves the right to reverse look up any images on the web for fraudulent / scammed images before sales or placing the animal on hold.
Cage setup must include the follow: Chin safe; metal cage, water bottle (glass), non-plastic feeder for food, ledges must be be kiln dried pine or metal.
You are responsible to bring your own travel carrier.
If you do not have a travel carrier at the time of pickup. The sale will be place on hold until you can go the the local store in town to purchase a carrier.
Adequate ventilation / cooling to be kept at 65-69 year round and monitored.
Must be 18 or older, if not a parent or guardian must complete the sales agreement.
Steps to purchasing a chinchilla.
Select a chinchilla either from our website or our Facebook page.
Go to the Contact Us page and email us to confirm availability, make arrangements for paying a deposit, or to schedule an appointment. Include the chinchilla’s ID number/name in the email.
Send a deposit or drop it in person. Deposits can be sent through Cash App or PayPal. Include the chinchilla’s ID/name in the payment. You may, also, make arrangements to drop it in person. You do not have to pay a deposit, but we cannot guarantee the chinchilla’s availability without a deposit.
Visit our home to pick up your chinchilla. Any outstanding balance is due at the pick-up time in cash. We will, at this time, have you fill out some paperwork.
Do not send a deposit/payment without confirming that the chinchilla is still available. Often, multiple parties are interested in the same animal.
We will not be held responsible for lost payments. Please, notify us when you send a deposit or payment so we can let you know when it arrives.
We will not accept a deposit or payment on a chinchilla that is less than 12 weeks old (3 months), but you could be put on a waiting list.
Rocky Mountain Chinchillas reserve the right to keep any chinchillas shown on the site whether a waiting list exists or not. If this occurs, we will notify all interested parties once a decision has been made.
If you select a chinchilla that is ready to leave, or you cannot pick it up right away, the chinchilla can be put on hold with a deposit. A deposit requires a fee of 50% of the purchase price or $50.00 (whichever is greater). We accept cash and Cash App / PayPal payments. A copy of this sales agreement (above) can be downloaded or will be emailed to you and must be completed, signed and returned to us. You can also stop by to fill it out in person. The hold will start when the deposit and signed sales agreement are received.
If, with in 48 hours, after receiving the deposit, you decide not to purchase the chinchilla, your deposit will be refunded.
The chinchilla will be held for 1 week. After the 1 week period, the customer will forfeit their deposit.

The balance of the chinchilla’s is due upon pickup. The deposit will be subtracted from the total price. If you do not pick up the chinchilla at the end of the agreed upon hold period, your deposit is forfeited, and the chinchilla will be placed back on the sale list.
We will schedule a maximum of 2 appointments to pick up the chinchilla. If you miss 2 appointments, you have canceled the sale and your deposit forfeited. Appointments will only be rescheduled if we are contacted 24 hours prior to the appointment time.

Rocky Mountain Chinchilla reserves the right to cancel or postpone the sale of any chinchilla. If this happens, you may:
Wait for the chinchilla to become available again OR
Put the deposit towards another animal OR
Receive a full refund of the deposit (canceled sales only)

Chin room visitations are at the discretion of RMC.
As the chin room is part of our home.
The chin room is also monitored by surveillance cameras for the protection of our home and animals.

Only 2-4 people, including children may come. (As we are limited to space)
Children should not be left in the vehicle.
If you are having signs of a cough, a mask is required or reschedule the visit if you are ill.
We are located in Central Iowa.
At Rocky Mountain Chinchillas, we are committed to providing flexible and efficient delivery services for our customers. We primarily service the state of Iowa, ensuring that our local customers receive timely and reliable deliveries. Our delivery charge is $0.50 per mile, calculated on a round trip basis. For customers outside of Iowa, we can accommodate deliveries as well, especially when we are on planned trips. If your delivery falls along one of our scheduled routes, you will benefit from the same $0.50 per mile rate without any additional charges. However, if your delivery requires a deviation from our planned trip, we will add a trip mileage fee to cover the extra distance traveled. This approach allows us to maintain competitive pricing while ensuring that all our customers, both local and out of state, receive high-quality service. Kits become available after 12 weeks. Kits remain with their mothers until they are 8 weeks old and stay for an additional 4 weeks to make sure that they are doing well on their own.

When you purchase a chinchilla from Rocky Mountain Chinchilla, we ensure you are well-prepared to transition your new pet into your home. You will receive a comprehensive starter package that includes: - 1 bag of our specially formulated chinchilla feed to help you transition to the feed you plan on using, - 1 bag of hay cubes, - 1 bag of alfalfa hay. This starter kit is designed to make the transition smooth and stress-free for your new chinchilla. Please note that when you purchase a chinchilla at shows, you will only receive the animal itself without the starter package. This ensures you have everything you need to start off on the right foot with your new pet.
Our Sterlings (standard grey) are $200 ea. and mutations (colored) are $400 ea. We do have some mutations that exceed $400.
Health Guarantee
This health guarantee extends for 30 days beyond the date of purchase. Should your pet become ill or die during that time, bring to us the certificate supplied in your packet, photos of the cage setup, a picture of the deceased animal, and written verification from a certified exotics veterinarian or by Westfield Veterinary Hospital in Johnston, Iowa that a necropsy was done within 24 hours or less of death. The verification must state that the animal was ill prior to the sale or suffered from a genetic defect and not from accident, neglect, or a preventable illness (such as pneumonia, digestive stasis, fighting, falls, etc.) contracted after the sale. If these requirements are met, and all recommendations from the breeder concerning the care of the chinchilla are followed, we will refund the entire purchase price, minus the $50 deposit (within 15 days) or replace it with an equally priced animal at no charge (within 30 days).

Policy for Extended Stay After Purchase
This policy is for extended stay after purchase. RMC will house the animal(s) for up to 2 weeks after purchase at $50 boarding fees.
The animal(s) will only be boarded and up to a maximum of 4 weeks total, from the time of purchase. IF the animal(s) are not able to be picked up after the 4 weeks, The customer will forfeit any purchase cost and expense (NON REFUNDABLE) and the animal(s) will be considered rescued and will NOT BE released into the customers care. At that time RMC will not re-sell any animal(s) to the customer.
Boarding fees of $50.00 to start on the 3rd week and paid at the end of each week on Fridays or paid in advance up to 2 weeks at $100.
Boarding fee includes: housing of the animal(s), water, bedding, feed, hay/hay cubes, dust baths (with breeders dust), socializing, and any groom needs that may need to happen.
While the animal(s) are boarded, the customer will give advance notice by 1 day as to when the customer will come and visit the animal(s).
Visitations will be limited to 2 per week, not to exceed 3 in 1 week period.
While visiting and handling the animal, MUST use hand sanitizer before handling the animal(s).
Visitation will consist of education and proper handling of the animal.
IF for any reason, anyone is sick or ill, a face covering will be required or no visitation until feeling better and not showing symptoms.
This is to protect the rest of the herd.
